|I’ve got some exciting news! I have signed with Czabok-Simpson Motorsport for the IMSA VP Racing SportsCar Challenge which begins at The Roar before the Rolex 24 in Daytona January 19-21. I’ll be racing in a brand-new Porsche Caymen GT4 RS Clubsport car. I can’t wait to get started in my first IMSA sports car race!
This is a very cool event and weekend if you want an excuse to get to Florida. It’s the kick off to the IMSA season and my race is the very first race of the year. The weekend includes practice and qualifying for the Rolex 24 featuring many INDYCAR and F1 stars. If anyone plans on attending, a GA ticket gives you all of the access you need in the paddock and drivers are very approachable this weekend. The following weekend is the Rolex 24 and my team will also be competing then in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge series and I plan on attending. I’ll be a reserve driver for that event and might compete in future races this season.
My series features a pair of 45 minute, single driver races with two classes. LMP3 is the faster class. We chose GSX in GT4 cars because these cars race in many series and there is more potential to find other opportunities. VP Challenge races air live on Peacock with NBC Sports and there is a replay on CNBC and YouTube within a couple of weeks. One of the coolest parts of this opportunity is getting to work with Stephen Simpson and his team, based in nearby Brownsburg. Stephen is a veteran racer of formula cars and sports cars and one of the top coaches in both categories. He knows what he’s doing, and I am looking forward to learning from him and watching as he puts this IMSA program together. I feel confident that my open wheel experience will translate well to this high-performance car. I can’t wait to get behind the wheel of the Porsche Cayman to show what I can do!
I know that this announcement may be a surprise to some of you because it’s a shift away from the formula cars that I have been driving for the past several years. As a developing driver, I am dedicated to learning as much as I can in as many types of cars as possible. This opportunity is giving me the chance to drive on a track that I’ve never experienced with drivers that I have never competed against so it will help me develop skills for a long-lasting and versatile career in motorsports. The best drivers can switch back and forth between car types, so hopefully this experience will help me further develop my driving skills. We’ll have more news in 2024 about other plans.
