A less than desirable Road America weekend has left us with a damaged race car and short of the immediate budget required to race at Mid Ohio next weekend. But, we already had a couple of potential partner additions in discussion and we will continue to work hard to make sure we are on track and that I have the opportunity for a strong come back!
After a strong start to Thursday testing, I was struggling to put laps together in qualifying. The timing of traffic, red flags and some inconsistency made it difficult to put the lap together. The car certainly had the pace and with one lap left in Q2, I was 4th. But. mistimed red flags helped put us in p15 and p10 for the two races. Race one lasted all of 3 corners. I had a good jump and picked up a couple of spots immediately but then was unfortunately hit in the right rear corner and thrown airborne and off track. We were able to get the car back on track and running again, but at that point we were a lap down and unable to advance our position. Race two was going very well. I had a fast car and was able to pick off a few cars and work my way into the top 5 within the first few laps and stayed within a pack racing for 5th-11th. But my race again came to an early end when a driver in front of me was shoved off track and spun causing chaos going into turn 5. I unfortunately made contact with another car who was slowing to miss the spin.
This was one of the most painful weekends of my racing career, especially considering the confidence and pace I had going into the weekend. I am even more motivated to come back strong at Mid Ohio and show what I am truly capable of. With the crash damage, we are now a little short of the budget required but we have hospitality and VIP packages and other partnership opportunities available at Mid Ohio next weekend and the Brickyard NASCAR/IndyCar double header at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway August 11-13, or any other IndyCar race weekend.
